My photographic series “Dystopia” will be exhibited worldwide. Dystopia is a series reflecting a forsaken society. Dehumanisation, economic downfall, social neglect, disaster & decline are the main ingredients.
The kickoff is at the Backlight Photo Festival in Tampere, Finland, from the 6th of September until the 5th of October 2014. Vernissage on Friday the 5th.
The next show is eastbound: 20 of my pictures will be shown in the National Museum of Singapore, as part of Singapore's International Photo Biennale. Exhibition runs from October the 4th until November 11th 2014. Vernissage on Friday the 3rd.
The third installment takes place in the Mediterranean town of Izmir, along the Turkish coastal lines. I participated in the Kontinent Photography Awards and won second place in the Fine Art Projects category. The jury featured people from Life.com, Magnum Photos, The Royal Academy of Arts and Reuters to name but a few. Safe to say I’m really honoured to be part of this show.
For the fourth and final installment let’s hear it for New York! The Collective 57 will represent the Dystopia series in the city that never snoozes, as from 2015.
Centrum voor Beeldexpressie has contacted me for doing a presentation about my pictures and adventures at the opening ceremony of De Groote Kunst. The event will be held on Friday the 25th of April at the reconverted PTT building in Oostende (now labeled as "De Grote Post"). Funny detail: I photographed this place while it was still in a neglected and abandoned state, 2009. I'm anxious to find out which parts still remain, and what's left of this magnificent building.
One of my pictures is on permanent display at the revamped 4-star Hotel The Yard in the centre of Milan, Italy. Measuring a whopping 5 meters in width & 3 meters in height, your latte macchiato experience in the lobby will be sweet as cherry pie.
The jury of the Grand Prix de la Découverte contest in Paris has awarded me with a Juror of Merit Award! Three of my images are amongst the Merit Award winners in the Architecture category. The award ceremony will take place at the Salon de la Photo 2013 in Paris on November the 7th. Je le fais pour vous, je le fais pour la France! (dixit Rémi Gaillard).
Hi! I'm Reginald.
I'm an urban explorer
I visit abandoned places. I have a weak spot for dormant structures, mothballed monasteries, derelict castles, defunct powerstations and everything in between.
The reverb of time is my vantage point. Yay! Decay!
I scout the unknown and unseen. I know from my exploring escapades which path to take, but sometimes I will choose another. Making big drops into oblivion. Ignorance is bliss, someone once told me.
It's a childhood thing. I've been venturing down the yellow brick road known as "Forsaken" since the early eighties. I'm halfway home.
I make photographs. Capturing the sheer momentum of a fragile abandonment. Hoping to inspire and motivate via my actions. And lack of actions. Not because urban photography is currently en vogue.
And remember. Reach for the moon - and if you miss, you'll land among the stars.
This is the story of The Alchemist. The famous novel about a little shepherd boy called Santiago who went on a big journey in search of a treasure hidden inside the pyramids of Egypt. Along the way he encounters love, danger, opportunity, disaster and learns a lot about himself and the ways of the world. If he follows his heart, he shall find what he seeks: his personal legend.
My name is not Santiago, I never met any alchemists, but I’m treasure hunting as well. Frankly put, I’m after the Holy Grail that will change humanity and mankind for ever. Someone must have pinpointed that awesomeness in Google Maps, no doubt. But right now I’m still figuring out whether that darned Grail is the destination or the journey itself. I will probably never find it, and if I do it won’t change a damn thing. But hey, at least I was looking for it, and had the most amazing time pursuing it.
